Salvation of our people comes first Than demarcation issue
(By Sadia Ali 12.01.2003)

On cyber media there are few articles demanding the ENA and other opposition organisations to clarify their stand about the demarcation issue and questioning the presence of the ENA in Ethiopia.

I feel disgusted about the people who raise these issues, because one feels as if they don't want to save the people from the dictatorial regime but to have the land a land without Eritreans, when our people are every day dying under the dictatorial regime, some in unnecessary wars with the neighbouring countries, some been killed by the regime every day under different pretext, some by Aids and some by poor living situations.

When I was young little girl my father once said to me that Haileselassie said" I didn't want the Eritrean people but their land, in other words, Eritrea as land without the Eritrean people", I feel that these people who are giving the boarder issue primacy rather the deliverance of our people saying the same as Hailselassie said.

The articles which demand the oppositions to get out from Ethiopia, and to stand against Ethiopia in the issue of demarcation seems to me that there is insincerity of raising these issues, because if they are genuine enough they have to ask this question to the dictatorial regime, why Isayas's regime didn't break diplomatic ties with Ethiopia and why the Ethiopian flag is waving in the Eritrean capital Asmara? After sacrificing our people under the pretext of nationalism.

The people who are speaking about demarcation knows clearly the stand of the ENA and ELF RC lead by Dr. Beyene that they stand with the decision of international court and called upon the international community to put it into practice, they know this cannot change the fact that the ENA is not in power and cannot negotiate about demarcation, because legally the negotiations are between two governments in power.

The ELF RC and other opposition organisations who are now under the umbrella of ENA have done every thing possible to stop war from breaking and even after it started, they stood against it by issuing their statements and by demonstrating against the war, before the regime put us into the mess which we are now in, but this could not stop it, because the regime in power decided to go to war, and now also the opposition cannot have a say except clarifying their stand which they did, but cannot change anything. The decision of the demarcation committee is final and binding to all.

But they are using these issues to disunite the opposition, and to strength the dictatorial regime in Eritrea knowingly or unknowingly God knows what their intentions exactly are.

I really wonder about these people who now becoming louder about the demarcation issue. Where were they when the regime was sacrificing our youth in unnecessary war? Where were they when the opposition including the ELF RC calling upon the Eritrean people to stop the regime from going to war and force it to solve the boarder issues through legal means?

These individuals who are raising the issue of demarcation or the presence of the ENA and ELF RC lead by Dr Beyene in Ethiopia have said nothing about the war, when our children, our sisters and brothers were paying their precious lives for unnecessary war. The price the Eritrean people are paying is the result of that war and all people who were clapping their hand with the regime in the issue of war are equally responsible for the crimes committed against our people.

The regime used the war to prolong his power and now using the demarcation issue as pretext to stay in power, his aim is very clear, but what it is not clear is about the organisations and individuals who claim they oppose the regime and speak the same words as the regime does. Are they the second faces of the regime or against it? If they are genuine opposition why now?

If this people really care about Eritrea and Eritreans, they have to highlight the suffering of our people under the dictatorship of Isayas and give the primacy to the salvation of our people, land will stay for ever in its place and it is not urgent problem which have to be solved now, the urgent problem which needs solution is the deliverance of our people and create democratic Eritrea under democratically elected leadership with multi party system, then and only then we can demand from the government to negotiate and solve the demarcation issue peacefully with our neighbouring country Ethiopia if not the opposition can put pressure to the government to the solve the problem, because until Isayas is in power there will never be permanent solutions with our neighbours.

Let's work together to get rid of Isayas and his regime first to save our people and to solve our problems with our neighbours.

God bless Eritrea
Glory to our Martyrdom
A democratic Eritrea is the means for the solving our problems
Our diversity is the source of our strength
